How big is it, exactly?

Four sizes, and these are the numbers measured flat, not stretched out: Throw 51 x 59 in, Large Throw 59 x 78 in, Queen 78 x 90 in, King 94 x 110 in. In centimetres that is 130 x 150, 150 x 200, 200 x 230 and 240 x 280. We publish the flat measurement because that is the number you can actually check with a tape measure when it arrives. If you want it to hang over the sides of a bed rather than just cover the top, go one size up from your mattress name.

Will it be warm enough in winter?

On its own, no, and we would rather say so now. This is an open weave, so it covers you and lets air move at the same time. In winter it works as the layer you put over a duvet or under a heavier blanket, and it adds warmth without adding bulk. If you are looking for one blanket to get you through January by itself, this is not that blanket.

Does it shrink in the wash?

Cotton gauze tightens a little the first time, so expect a small amount of shrinkage on the first wash even though the fabric is pre-washed. Cold water, gentle cycle and hang it to dry. A hot dryer is what turns a small amount into a noticeable one.

It looks thin in the photos. Is it?

It is light, and that is the whole point of the weave: layers of cotton gauze that hold air between them instead of sealing it in. It covers like a full blanket and weighs almost nothing. If what you want is a thick, heavy, sealed blanket, buy a thick, heavy, sealed blanket. This one is for the people who keep pushing those off the bed at two in the morning.

What people are saying

4.8 out of 5. Individual experiences may vary

I measured it the day it came because I have been burned before. It is the size it says it is.

It lives on the sofa now. Light enough that I forget it is on me until I stand up.

Third wash and it is softer than the day it arrived. That is not something I say about bedding.

Sound familiar?

If every blanket you own is either too hot or too small...

Too warm ten minutes in

You pull it over you, and by the end of the first episode one leg is already back out in the air.

The throw that covers one person

Two of you on the sofa and a blanket that reaches the knees of whoever grabbed it first.

It arrives smaller than the photo

You order a queen, unfold it, and it does not reach the sides of the bed. Nobody publishes the real number.

Cotton, Not Polyester. Air, Not Insulation.

What it is made of, how big it actually is and how to keep it that way. Individual experiences may vary.

We bought it for the summer and it never went in the cupboard. It goes over the duvet in winter and it is the only thing in the house both of us agree on.

Questions, answered

Everything you might be wondering

01How big is it, exactly?
Four sizes, and every number here is measured flat rather than pulled taut: Throw 51 x 59 in, Large Throw 59 x 78 in, Queen 78 x 90 in, King 94 x 110 in. The supplier specification is in centimetres, 130 x 150, 150 x 200, 200 x 230 and 240 x 280, and we have rounded the inches down rather than up so the number on the page is never bigger than the blanket in the box. Two things worth knowing before you choose. A Throw is for one person on a sofa, not for two. And if you want the blanket to hang over the sides of a bed rather than sit on top of it, take the size above your mattress name.
02Is it warm enough on its own in winter?
Not by itself, and we would rather lose the sale than have you find that out in December. Cotton gauze is an open weave: it covers you and lets air keep moving at the same time, which is exactly what you want in a warm room and exactly what you do not want as your only blanket in a cold one. In winter it earns its place as the layer you put over a duvet or under something heavier, adding warmth without adding bulk. From spring to autumn it works on its own.
03Does it shrink?
A little on the first wash, yes. The fabric is pre-washed, which takes most of it out before it ever reaches you, but cotton gauze still tightens slightly the first time it goes through a machine. Wash cold on a gentle cycle and hang it to dry and you will barely notice. Put it through a hot dryer and you will. That is the single thing that decides how close it stays to the size on the label.
04What is a gauze weave, and what is it made of?
100 percent cotton, woven as gauze: an open, airy structure built up in layers rather than one dense sheet of fabric. The layers hold air between them, which is what makes it cover you without heating you, and it is also why the surface has that soft crinkled texture instead of lying flat. No polyester, no rayon blend and no coating. It is the fabric doing the work, so there is nothing on it to wash out over time.
05How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors, then hang it to dry. No bleach, no ironing and no fabric softener: softener coats the cotton and takes away the exact texture you paid for. Skip the hot dryer, which is what causes shrinkage and roughens the surface. Treated this way it gets softer with every wash rather than wearing out, which is the one thing this fabric does that most blankets do not.
06Is it too thin to be worth it?
Hold it up and you will see light through it. That is the weave, not a shortcut, and it is the reason the blanket does what it does. If you are shopping for something thick and heavy that seals the heat in, buy that instead, and we mean that. This one is for people who want to be covered without being cooked, who want something they can carry in one hand, and who are tired of pushing a heavy blanket off the bed halfway through the night.
07How does shipping and the guarantee work?

08What if it is not for me?
